Monolene é un xénero de peixes teleósteos da orde dos pleuronectiformes, suborde dos pleuronectoideos e familia dos bótidos.[1]

Encóntranse nos océanos Atlántico e Pacífico leste.

As especies deste xénero son de pequenas dimensións, porén algunhas teñen interese pesqueiro, ás que Lahuerta e Vázquez dan o nome de rapapelos (como aos seus parentes do xénero Arnoglossus.[2]

Taxonomía

O xénero foi fundado en 1880 polo ictiólogo estadounidense George Brown Goode,[1] nun traballo publicado na revista Proc. U.S. nat. Mus., 3: 209.[3]

Etimoloxía

O nome científico Monolene está formado co elemento do latín científico mono-, derivado do grego antigo μονο- mono-, de μονός monós, "único", e da voz grega ληνόσ lēnós, "lagar", "pía" (aquí co sentido de "cavidade cranial").
