O kikuyu está clasificado como "en estado seguro" polo Libro Vermello das Linguas Ameazadas da UNESCO[1]

O kikuyu ou gikuyu (kikuyu: Gĩkũyũ) é unha lingua da familia bantú falada polo pobo kikuyu (Agĩkũyũ) de Kenya. É falada por preto de 6 millóns de persoas (22% da poboación de Kenya),[2] sendo o meirande grupo etnolingüístico de Kenya. O kikuyu fálase nas zonas entre Nyeri e Nairobi. É unha das cinco linguas do subgrupo Thagichu das linguas bantú, que abranguen dende Kenya até Tanzania.
