Le Maine est une région historique de l'ouest de la France, avec pour ville principale Le Mans et pour habitants les Mainiots et Mainiotes. Son nom vient du peuple gaulois des Cénomans.

Légué en 1481 à Louis XI, le Maine devient une province, puis est divisé en 1790 entre les départements de la Sarthe et de la Mayenne, dont il forme la majorité de leur territoire.
