L’Île-de-France, la première par sa population des 13 régions de la France métropolitaine, compte 11,6 millions d’habitants et occupe une surface de 12 000 km2. C’est avant tout la « région capitale », centre administratif, politique, économique et culturel de la France, et la première région d’Europe par son PIB devant la Lombardie et le Grand Londres.
