Macrothele est un genre d'araignées mygalomorphes de la famille des Macrothelidae[1].
Distribution
[modifier | modifier le code]Les espèces de ce genre se rencontrent en Asie, en Afrique et en Europe du Sud[1].
Habitat
[modifier | modifier le code]Ces araignées vivent dans les forêts, le long des rives des cours d'eau où elles tissent des toiles sous les troncs et les pierres.
Description
[modifier | modifier le code]Les macrothèles sont des araignées noir brillant.
Elles ont quatre filières dont deux très allongées, des denticules autour des pièces buccales et trois griffes tarsales[2].

Systématique et taxinomie
[modifier | modifier le code]Ce genre a été décrit par Ausserer en 1871 dans les Theraphosidae. Il est placé dans les Hexathelidae par Raven en 1980[3] puis dans les Macrothelidae par Hedin, Derkarabetian, Ramírez, Vink et Bond en 2018[4].
Orientothele[5] a été placé en synonymie par Drolshagen en 2017[6].
