John A. Agnew, né le à Millom, dans le comté de Cumbria en Angleterre, est un géographe américain d'origine britannique, professeur émérite de géographie à l'université de Californie à Los Angeles.
Biographie
[modifier | modifier le code]John Agnew obtient une licence à l'université d'Exeter en 1970 et une qualification pour l'enseignement (cert.ed.) à l'université de Liverpool en 1971. Il poursuit ses études aux États-Unis, où il obtient un master de géographie à l'université d'État de l'Ohio en 1973 et son doctorat de géographie dans la même université, en 1976[1]. Il est professeur à l'université de Syracuse (New York) de 1975 à 1995. Il enseigne ensuite à l'université de Californie à Los Angeles. De 1998 à 2002, il dirige le département de géographie de cette université.
Activités éditoriales
[modifier | modifier le code]Ses livres les plus connus sont Place and Politics (1987) et Geopolitics: Re-Visioning World Politics (2003). Il a été président de l’American Association of Geographers en 2008-2009[2] et rédacteur en chef adjoint des Annals of the Association of American Geographers. Il est corédacteur de la revue Geopolitics de 1998 à 2009. Il est l'actuel rédacteur en chef de la revue Territory, Politics, Governance[3].
