ABC Circle Films était la société de production de cinéma et de télévision de ABC. Le nom de cette société provient du logo conçu en 1962 pour ABC, baptisée sobrement ABC Circle, est formé des lettres abc en minuscules dans un cercle noir.

Historique

Le American Broadcasting Company crée une filiale nommée ABC Films Syndication Division pour la syndication et la production en interne d'émissions, présidée par George Shupert[1]. Elle est rapidement nommée ABC Films dans la presse[2].

En 1959, ABC International crée une société nommée WorldVision Enterprises pour la syndication à l'international[3]. En 1961, George Shupert quitte ABC Films pour la 20th Century Fox-TV[4].

En 1971, la FCC décide que la production et la syndication des émissions ne peuvent plus être faite par la même société. Dès 1972, ABC Films est découpée en WorldVision (syndication) et ABC Circle Films (production)[5]. WorldVision est vendue à des responsables d'ABC pour près de 10 millions d'USD[5].

Parmi ses productions, on peut citer Clair de lune (Moonlighting) et America's Funniest Home Videos (la version originale de Vidéo Gag).

Quand la Walt Disney Company a racheté ABC en 1996, ABC Circle Films a été absorbée par Touchstone Television.[réf. nécessaire]

Cette dernière a été rebaptisée ABC Television Studio en février 2007.
