Kotšinkiina

Kotšinkiina (ransk. Cochinchine) on alue, joka kattaa suunnilleen nykyisen Vietnamin eteläisimmän kolmanneksen Ho Tši Minhin ympäristössä. Se oli Ranskan siirtomaa vuosina 1862−1948. Keisari Tu Duc luovutti sen ranskalaisille, kun nämä olivat onnistuneet valloittamaan Saigonin (nyk. Hồ Chí Minhin kaupunki) jo vuonna 1847 alkaneen hyökkäyksen seurauksena.[1]
Vuonna 1887 Ranska yhdisti siirtomaansa tuolla alueella − Annamin, Tonkinin, Kambodžan ja Kotšinkiinan − Ranskan Indokiinaksi.[2] Nimitys Kotšin tulee kiinan- tai malaijinkielisestä sanasta Kuchi, joka tarkoitti Vietnamia.
