Tongako zaldia Polinesiako Tongako bertako zaldi arraza bat da [1]. Bere tamaina zein gainontzeko ezaugarriengatik Tongako zaldia ponien sailkapen taldean kokatzen da.

Tongan dagoen bertako zaldi arraza bakarra da. Ustez Australiatik zein Zeelanda berritik ekarri zituzten abere hauen arbasoak. Bereziki Nuku'alofan , Haʻapain eta Vavaʻun aurkitu daitezke gaur egun. Zama aberetzat zein lor-zalditzat erabiltzen da.

Arrazaren historia

Zaldi hauek Australiatik eta Zelanda Berritik inportatutakoak izan ziren bere garaian. Edozein moduan oso informazio gutxi dago abere hauen jatorriari buruz. Thomas West-en arabera (1850eko hamarkadaren amaieran), misiolariek urte batzuk lehenago desagertutako zaldia berriro sartu zuten Tongan, James Cook kapitainak ekarritako jatorrizko abere saldoa desagertu egin zelako.
