Stratotüüp

Stratotüüp (ka tüüpläbilõige) on kivimite kindel kihiline järjestus stratigraafilise üksuse või selle piiride määratlemiseks ja iseloomustamiseks.[1]

Näiteks Kukruse lademe esmakirjelduses kasutatud läbilõige (holostratotüüp) asus Kukruse mõisa lähedal. Selle lademe kõige tuntum settekivim on kukersiit (põlevkivi). Nimetus "kukersiit" on tuletatud Kukruse mõisa nimest.

Stratotüüp võib esineda stratotüüpse paljandina või puuraugus.
