Stereokeemia

Stereokeemia on keemia haru, mis tegeleb aatomite ruumilise paigutusega molekulis ja vastavate manipulatsioonidega. Stereokeemia on keemia kolmes mõõtmes (ka 3D-keemia), mille fookuses on stereoisomeerid ja olulisel kohal on kiraalsed molekulid.

Stereokeemia tegeleb stereoisomeeride kirjeldamise, määramise, omaduste, saamise ja reaktsioonidega.

Mingi stereoisomeeri reaktsioon on stereospetsiifiline, kui produktis säilib lähteühendi aatomite konfiguratsioon või kui produkti konfiguratsioon on lähteaine omale vastupidine (Waldeni inversioon, näiteks SN2 reaktsioonid). Kui reaktsioonis esineb sümmeetrilise konfiguratsiooniga vaheprodukt, siis saadakse isomeeride 1:1 segu ehk ratsemaat (näiteks SN1 reaktsioonides).
