Vapi kinnitas riigiminister Uno Veering 5. mail 1992.

Vapi autor on Priit Herodes.

Punasel kilbil hõbedane lainelõikeline piit ja hõbedane liilia.

Põhjendus

Värvid viitavad Harjumaale, lainelõikeline piit valla seotusele veega (meri, jõgi, kosk). Liilia neitsi Maarja sümbolina sümboliseerib Jõelähtme 14. sajandil neitsi Maarjale pühitsetud kirikut.
