ParaHoxozoa es un clado fundamental dentro de la filogenia animal. Indica que los eumetazoos tuvieron una divergencia importante entre tres grupos los placozoos, cnidarios y bilaterales.[1]

Su descubrimiento se basó en el estudio de los genes homeóticos, ya que los genes Hox se originaron en este clado. Ya los primeros animales adquirieron múltiples genes similares a los NK, pero es en el clado ParaHoxozoa donde se originan los genes Hox, ParaHox y EHGbox. El arrastre del código Hox en el desarrollo de los eumetazoos, pudo haber contribuido en la evolución de su complejidad morfológica y en la diversificación de los planes corporales bilaterales durante la explosión del Cámbrico.

Los análisis filogenéticos moleculares recientes han establecido los siguientes clados,[2][3][4]​ por lo que está establecido que los celentéreos forman un grupo parafilético.
