Leĝo de Grimm
La Leĝo de Grimm estas sona leĝo unue formulita en 1822 de Jakob Grimm (1785-1863). La leĝo montras la laŭregulan manieron per kiu la ĝermanida sonsistemo diverĝis de la hindeŭropa sonsistemo. Li montris naŭ ensemblojn de interrilatoj, kiuj aperis kiel klara fonetika modelo. Voĉaj aspiratoj (inkluzive de voĉaj plozivoj kaj frikativoj) en hindeŭropa iĝis voĉaj plozivoj en ĝermanida; voĉaj plozivoj iĝis senvoĉaj plozivoj; kaj senvoĉaj plozivoj iĝis senvoĉaj aspiratoj. Ĉi tiuj rilatoj klarigas, kial vortoj, kiuj latine, greke aŭ sanskrite komenciĝas per /p/, ĝenerale komenciĝas per /f/ en angla aŭ germana (pater > father, Vater). Iaj esceptoj al ĉi tiu leĝo klariĝis pli malfrue de aliaj lingvistoj.
