Laŭ la Sundiata Eposo,[1] Kurukan Fuga estis la konstitucio de la Malia Imperio Kreita post la Batalo de Krina (1235) fare de asembleo de nobeloj por krei registaron por la nova establita imperio. Laŭ la parola tradicio de grjotaj poetoj de Malio kaj Gvineo, la Kurukan Fuga establis la federacion de mandinkaj klanoj sub unu registaro, defininte kiel ĝi funkcios kaj establis la leĝojn per kiuj la popolo vivos. La nomo Kurukan Fuga estas toponimo, tradukebla al "klarigita granito/ laterito",[2] alude al la ebenaĵo de la urbo Ka-ba (nuna Kangaba) kie laŭ legendo Sundiata Keita prezentis la ĉarton.
