ఆమ్‌స్టర్‌డ్యామ్ నెదర్లాండ్స్ రాజధాని. 872,680 జనాభాతో [1]ఇది ఆ దేశంలో అత్యధిక జనాభా కలిగిన నగరం. మెట్రోపాలిటన్ ప్రాంత జనాభా 24,10,960. నగరంలో ఉన్న అనేక కాలువల కారణంగా దీన్ని ఉత్తరాది వెనిస్ గా దీన్ని పేర్కొంటారు. ఈ కాలువలను యునెస్కో వారసత్వ ప్రదేశంగా గుర్తించారు.
ఆమ్‌స్టెల్ అనే నది పైన కట్టిన డ్యాము వద్ద ఉన్న నగరంగా దీనికి ఆ పేరు వచ్చింది. [2] 12 వ శతాబ్దిలో చేపల పట్టే వారి పల్లెగా ఇది వెలసింది. 17 వ శతాబ్దిలో ఒక ముఖ్యమైన రేవుపట్టణంగా, వాణిజ్య కేంద్రంగా విలసిల్లింది.[3] 19, 20 శతాబ్దాల్లో నగరం బాగా విస్తరించింది.
ఆమ్‌స్టర్‌డ్యామ్ నెదర్లాండ్స్‌కు వాణిజ్య రాజధని. సాంస్కృతిక రాజధాని కూడా.[4] ఫిలిప్స్, అక్జోనోబెల్, టోంటోం, ఐఎన్‌జి వంటి అనేక సంస్థల కేంద్ర కార్యాలయాలు ఇక్కడే ఉన్నాయి.[5] ఉబర్, నెట్‌ఫ్లిక్స్, టెస్లా వంటి విదేశీ సంస్థల ఐరోపా కార్యాలయాలు ఇక్కడ ఉన్నాయి.[6] 2012 లో, ఐరోపా లోని అత్యంత జీవనానుకూలమైన నగరాల్లో రెండవదిగా ఆమ్‌స్టర్‌డ్యామ్ ఎంపికైంది. [9] ఆమ్‌స్టర్‌డ్యామ్ ఐరోపాలో ఐదవ అతి పెద్ద రేవుపట్టణం.[10] ఆమ్‌స్టర్‌డ్యామ్ లోని షిఫోల్ విమానాశ్రయం ప్రయాణీకుల రద్దీలో ఐరోపా లోకెల్లా మూడవ స్థానంలో ఉంది. ఆమ్‌స్టర్‌డ్యామ్ పౌరుల్లో ప్రముఖులు రెంబ్రాంట్, వాన్ గాఫ్.
భౌగోళికం
[మార్చు]ఆమ్‌స్టర్‌డ్యామ్ నెదర్లాండ్స్ పశ్చిమ భాగంలో నార్త్ హాలండ్ ప్రావిన్సులో ఉంది.అంస్టెల్ నది నగరం మధ్య వరకూ ప్రవహించి ఆగిపోతుంది. అక్కడి నుండి అనేక కాలువలుగా చీలి పోతుంది. ఆమ్‌స్టర్‌డ్యామ్ సముద్ర మట్టానికి 2 మీటర్ల దిగువన ఉంటుంది.[11] నగర విస్తీర్ణం 219.4 చ.కి.మీ. ఇందులో పార్కులు, ప్రకృతి వనాలు 12% భాగాన్ని ఆక్రమిస్తాయి..[12]
