Resolution on the Capital, Calendar, National Anthem and National Flag of the People's Republic of China (1949)
Adopted at the First Plenary Session of the Chinese People's Political Consultative
Conference on September 27, 1949.

1. It is unanimously adopted that Beiping shall be the capital of the People's Republic of China
and shall be renamed Beijing beginning from today.
2. It is unanimously adopted that the Gregorian calendar shall be used as the chronological
system in the People's Republic of China. This year is nineteen forty-nine.
3. It is unanimously adopted that before the official national anthem of the People's Republic of China is composed, the March of the Volunteers shall be used as the national anthem.
4. It is unanimously adopted that the national flag of the People's Republic of China shall be a
flag with five stars on a field of red, symbolizing the great unity of the revolutionary Chinese
people.
