ലോകമെമ്പാടുമായി 13 കോടിയോളം ആളുകൾ മാതൃഭാഷയായും 60 കോടിയോളം ആളുകൾ രണ്ടാംഭാഷയോ മൂന്നാംഭാഷയോ ആയി സംസാരിക്കുന്ന ഇന്തോ-യൂറോപ്യൻ ഗോത്രത്തിൽപ്പെട്ട ഭാഷയാണ് ഫ്രഞ്ച് (français, pronounced [fʁɑ̃sɛ]) [5]. ഈ ഭാഷ ഉത്ഭവിച്ച ഫ്രാൻസ് കൂടാതെ, കാനഡ, ബെൽജിയം ,സ്വിറ്റ്സർലാന്റ് എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ മാതൃഭാഷയായി സംസാരിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ഇന്ത്യയിൽ നേരത്തെ ഫ്രഞ്ച് കോളനിയായിരുന്ന പുതുച്ചേരി കേന്ദ്രഭരണപ്രദേശത്തിൽ ഇന്നും ഔദ്യോഗികഭാഷകളിൽ ഒന്നായി ഉപയോഗിക്കപ്പെടുന്നുണ്ടു്.
ചരിത്രം
[തിരുത്തുക]ഫ്രഞ്ച് ഒരു റോമാൻസ് ഭാഷയാണ് (പ്രാഥമികമായി വൾഗാർ ലാറ്റിൻ ഭാഷയിൽ നിന്നാണ് ഫ്രഞ്ച് ഉരുത്തിരിഞ്ഞുണ്ടായ‌തെന്നാണ് ഇതിന്റെ അർത്ഥം). വടക്കൻ ഫ്രാൻസിൽ സംസാരിച്ചിരുന്ന ഗാല്ലോ-റോമാൻസ് ഭാഷാഭേദങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നാണ് ഫ്രഞ്ച് ഉരുത്തിരിഞ്ഞുണ്ടായത്.
പതിനേഴാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടുമുതൽ ഇരുപതാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിന്റെ മദ്ധ്യം വരെ നയതന്ത്ര ആവശ്യങ്ങൾക്കായി ഉപയോഗിച്ചിരുന്ന പ്രധാന ഭാഷ ഫ്രഞ്ചായിരുന്നു. പിന്നീട് (രണ്ടാം ലോകമഹായുദ്ധത്തിനു ശേഷം) അമേരിക്ക ആഗോള ശക്തിയായതോടെ ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് ഈ ധർമ്മം ഏറ്റെടുത്തു.[6][7] ലോസ് ഏഞ്ചൽസ് ടൈംസിന്റെ സ്റ്റാൻലി മില്ലറുടെ അഭിപ്രായത്തിൽ വെഴ്സൈൽ കരാർ ഫ്രഞ്ചിനുപുറമേ ഇംഗ്ലീഷിൽ കൂടി തയ്യാറാക്കപ്പെട്ടതായിരുന്നു ഫ്രഞ്ച് ഭാഷയ്ക്കേറ്റ ആദ്യ നയതന്ത്ര പ്രഹരം.[8]
ഇപ്പോഴും ലോകത്തെ പ്രധാന നയതന്ത്ര ഭാഷകളിലൊന്നാണ് ഫ്രഞ്ച്.[9] നേറ്റോ, അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര ഒളിമ്പിക് കമ്മിറ്റി, ഐക്യരാഷ്ട്രസഭാ സെക്രട്ടറിയേറ്റ്, കൗൺസിൽ ഓഫ് യൂറോപ്പ്, അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര നീതിന്യായ കോടതി, ഓർഗനൈസേഷൻ ഫോർ എക്കണോമിക് കോ-ഓപ്പറേഷൻ ആൻഡ് ഡെവലപ്പ്മെന്റ്, ഓർഗനൈസേഷൻ ഓഫ് അമേരിക്കൻ സ്റ്റേറ്റ്സ്, യൂറോപ്യൻ കമ്മീഷൻ, യൂറോവിഷൻ സംഗീതമത്സരം, യൂറോപ്യൻ സ്പേസ് ഏജൻസി, ലോക വ്യാപാര സംഘടന, നാഫ്ത എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലൊക്കെ ഫ്രഞ്ച് ഒരു ഔദ്യോഗിക ഭാഷയാണ്. റെഡ് ക്രോസ്സ്, ആംനസ്റ്റി ഇന്റർനാഷണൽ, മെഡിസിൻസ് സാൻസ് ഫ്രണ്ടിയേഴ്സ്, മെഡിസിൻസ് ഡ്യൂ മോണ്ടെ മുതലായ ലാഭേച്ഛയില്ലാതെ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്ന സംഘടനകളുടെയും പ്രവർത്തനഭാഷകളിലൊന്ന് ഫ്രഞ്ചാണ്.[10]
