Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga
Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga temple, also known as Baidyanath, Vaijnath and Baijnath is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, the most sacred abodes of Shiva. However, the location of the Jyotirlinga is contested as the Government of India hasn't notified one of these temples as the Jyotirlinga. The claimed temples with their locations are:[1][2]
- Shri Vaijnath Temple, Parli, Maharashtra[3]
- Baidyanath Temple, Deoghar, Jharkhand
- Baijnath Temple, Kangra, Himachal Pradesh
- At the time when Ravana was carrying Shivlinga from Mount Kailas, there was a slight doubt, while going south to Lanka, Maharashtra comes to the center of India, Jharkhand does not come, and the twelfth mantra of Shivpuran and Shankaracharya includes Parli Vaijnath Jyotirlinga, so the whole of India and Nepal are also known. The fifth Jyotirlinga is located at Vaidyanath Parli Vaijnath, Maharashtra.
Background
In Dvādaśa Jyotirliṅga Smaranam, the 12 jyotirlingas are described as follows:[4]

saurāṣṭradeśe viśade'tiramye jyotirmayaṁ candrakalāvataṁsam । bhaktipradānāya kr̥pāvatīrṇaṁ taṁ somanāthaṁ śaraṇaṁ prapadye ॥ śrīśailaśr̥ṅge vibudhātisaṅge tulādrituṅge'pi mudā vasantam । avantikāyāṁ vihitāvatāraṁ muktipradānāya ca sajjanānām । kāverikānarmadayoḥ pavitre samāgame sajjanatāraṇāya । pūrvottare prajvalikānidhāne sadā vasantaṁ girijāsametam । yāmye sadaṅge nagare'tiramye vibhūṣitāṅgaṁ vividhaiśca bhogaiḥ । mahādripārśve ca taṭe ramantaṁ sampūjyamānaṁ satataṁ munīndraiḥ । sahyādriśīrṣe vimale vasantaṁ godāvaritīrapavitradeśe । sutāmraparṇījalarāśiyoge nibadhya setuṁ viśikhairasaṁkhyaiḥ । yaṁ ḍākiniśākinikāsamāje niṣevyamāṇaṁ piśitāśanaiśca । sānandamānandavane vasantamānandakandaṁ hatapāpavr̥ndam । ilāpure ramyaviśālake'smin samullasantaṁ ca jagadvareṇyam । jyotirmayadvādaśaliṅgakānāṁ śivātmanāṁ proktamidaṁ krameṇa । |
Additionally, In January 2018, Government of Madhya Pradesh and the management committee of Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga organized a congregation of priests from all the 12 Jyotirlingas where the priests from Shri Vaijnath Temple was invited. The priest community of Deoghar took strong exception to this move and registered their protest with the Government of Madhya Pradesh and the management committee of Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga.[9][10]
