Using your Quark Color graphic

[edit]

Hello there. I thought I'd let you know that I took your graphic at File:Quark Colors.svg and re-saved it as a PNG file so that it could be used in the relevant article. I also modified the same image to illustrate quark anticolors-- you can see the SVG file at File:Quark Anticolors.svg. I realize you released your original image into the public domain, but I thought I would inform you of my usage, just to err on the side of caution. --Southwest (talk) 01:42, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer be able to have them marked as minor by default. For more information on what a minor edit is, see WP:MINOR or feel to get in touch.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 21:29, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Coordination chemistry

[edit]

I saw your lovely table in coordination_complex. The part of the table that puzzles me is the information on the nature of the various species, things like Fe(OH)2(H2O)4 and several others. Are these species real or your best guess of what forms at various pH's? Thanks, --Smokefoot (talk) 23:43, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I did not personally compile the information for this table. It is simply a re-make of the image File:Complex_ion_colours.jpg, which was in the same spot before my edits. That file was originally made by Jetpack, so you might be able to get information on the formation of these species from him/her. Hopefully, he/she can supply a few reliable sources. However, in the meantime, the properties (color and "soln/ppt/bubbles") of many compounds can be looked up and verified here on Wikipedia. For example, taking Fe(OH)2(H2O)4, you can look up iron(II) hydroxide. On that page, you can see that Fe(OH)2 is extremely insoluble so it would mostly precipitate from solution, and you can see that an aqueous solution of Fe(OH)2 (ie, after it bonds with water to make the Fe(OH)2(H2O)4 coordination complex) is dark green (whereas, the anhydrous complex pictured up top is brown). -- Wierdw123 (talk) 00:45, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I was wondering where that info came from! My guess is that the formulas are quasi-fiction concocted by some well intentioned editor who doesnt understand this kind of complicated stuff. Wikipedia is probably not a good enough reference source. I need to check some more. Thanks for the note.--Smokefoot (talk) 01:03, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It seems as though all of this information comes from the Chemical Thesaurus, and it seems as though the tabulated compounds come from interpretation of formulas found there. For example, taking the AlIII column, this website gives the following info:
Hydrated ion ~ AlCl3 + 6H2O → [Al(H2O)6]3+ + 3Cl
Dilute OH solution ~ [Al(H2O)6]3+ + 3NaOH → [Al(H2O)3(OH)3] + 3H2O + 3Na+
Conc. OH solution ~ [Al(H2O)6]3+ + 4NaOH → [Al(OH)4] + 4Na+ + 6H2O
Dilute NH3 solution ~ [Al(H2O)6]3+ + 3NH3 → [Al(H2O)3(OH)3] + 3[NH4]+
Conc. NH3 solution ~ [Al(H2O)6]3+ + 6NH3 → [Al(H2O)3(OH)3] + 3[NH4]+ + 3NH3
CO32– solution ~ 2[Al(H2O)6]3+ + 3CO32– → 2[Al(H2O)3(OH)3] + 3CO2 + 3H2O
It also gives colors of all of the ions. I'm not sure how reliable this resource is, though. It seems to be legit, but it doesn't cite any sources that I can see. I'm not exactly sure how to proceed, and you seem to have more experience with this stuff than I do, so I'll let you go on from here. --Wierdw123 (talk) 03:22, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Decupleto bariônico.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
