Looking at your contributions, I think you should get more experience in recent changes patrol and participate more. Currently, you have less than 50 edits that are tagged as Undo, and I don't think I would able to evaluate the request without a consistent track record. I used this link so I can click on the diffs. I must have miscounted because you didn't have less than 50. In general I am not looking for a number that you hit, but rather enough track record to evaluate how you identify different types of edits. So far you've only patrolled recent changes for a single week. Hi, oxDeadbeef. I made an addition to List of scholarly publishing stings that was reverted, and I'm trying to understand why. You noted "self published, not referenced by third parties," but at least one of the citations (a reported story by a BBC journalist) is not self-published in any sense that I'm familiar with. There is also an editorial published by a mainstream media outlet (Undark Magazine); perhaps that is also considered self-published but it seems rather different than a tweet or blog etc. Thanks for any help you can provide, I'm still new to Wikipedia editing. Yeah, sorry about that confusing edit summary. I meant that they are all primary sources. The BBC radio directly interviews the person who made the publication, the editorial is also written by the person who did it. They are not self-published, but rather primary sources. Hmm, ok. I guess I was conceptualizing the BBC Radio story more as a secondary source; it's an editor doing a story on predatory publishing who uses the author as a source. That kind of reference seems in line with the other cited references in this list, but maybe I'm missing something? There are a number of other sources I found that seem straightforwardly secondary as well though, if I'm still not understanding this. Hello! I just wanted to ask for a bit of advice about edit filter manager. I'm currently an EFH since about 4 months ago, but I'm not entirely sure if I've got anywhere near enough under my belt to make an EFM request. My main motivation for this would be being able to implement changes to filters on my own, such as this, or perhaps things like this, as well as this. (All links are to the mailing list), as well as things like this. Mostly though, I'd like a bit of advice on what I should have if I was to request (the policy page is just a bit vague on any actual requirements other than consensus) EFM, and/or whether I'd be anywhere near ready. I think these link showcase good technical understanding to be considered as EFM. Given your experience helping out with edit filters, I would probably lean towards support. On the other hand, people consider EFM to be a high-trust position, and sometimes are harsher when they evaluate EFM candidates compared to RfA candidates. It all comes down to trust, and that can be hard to gauge. I would probably just encourage you to be BOLD and see it it turns out fine. (And there were indeed times where people felt I was being too fast with requesting certain permissions back then, it didn't really hurt my wikicareer as I took their advice and found out how to contribute in a way that works for me) 0xDeadbeef→∞ (talk to me) 11:31, 27 March 2024 (UTC)

@Harvici, sorry for the slightly late reply. This is indeed a policy specific to English Wikipedia. See WP:CHECKME. The reason is that even if a CheckUser went a take a look, it is not 100% proof that someone is truly innocent. And there are privacy reasons for why we'd want to avoid unnecessary checks. Recent changes

• The appearance of talk pages changed for the following wikis: Azerbaijani Wikipedia, Bengali Wikipedia, German Wikipedia, Persian Wikipedia, Hebrew Wikipedia, Hindi Wikipedia, Indonesian Wikipedia, Korean Wikipedia, Dutch Wikipedia, Portuguese Wikipedia, Romanian Wikipedia, Thai Wikipedia, Turkish Wikipedia, Ukrainian Wikipedia, Vietnamese Wikipedia. These wikis participated to a test, where 50% of users got the new design, for one year. As this test gave positive results, the new design is deployed on these wikis as the default design. It is possible to opt-out these changes in user preferences ("Show discussion activity"). The deployment will happen at all wikis in the coming weeks. [35]
• Seven new wikis have been created:
  • a Wikipedia in Betawi (w:bew:) [36]
  • a Wikipedia in Kusaal (w:kus:) [37]
  • a Wikipedia in Igala (w:igl:) [38]

  • a Wikisource in Burmese (s:my:) [40]

• Dark mode is now available on all wikis, on mobile web for logged-in users who opt into the advanced mode. This is the early release of the feature. Technical editors are invited to check for accessibility issues on wikis. See more detailed guidelines.

Problems

• Kartographer maps can use an alternative visual style without labels, by using mapstyle="osm". This wasn't working in previews, creating the wrong impression that it wasn't supported. This has now been fixed. [44]

Hi there! Phase I of the Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/2024 review has concluded, with several impactful changes gaining community consensus and proceeding to various stages of implementation. Some proposals will be implemented in full outright; others will be discussed at phase II before being implemented; and still others will proceed on a trial basis before being brought to phase II. The following proposals have gained consensus:

• Proposals 2 and 9b (phase II discussion): Add a reminder of civility norms at RfA and Require links for claims of specific policy violations
• Proposal 3b (in trial): Make the first two days discussion-only
• Proposal 13 (in trial): Admin elections
• Proposal 14 (implemented): Suffrage requirements
• Proposals 16 and 16c (phase II discussion): Allow the community to initiate recall RfAs and Community recall process based on dewiki
• Proposal 17 (phase II discussion): Have named Admins/crats to monitor infractions
• Proposal 24 (phase II discussion): Provide better mentoring for becoming an admin and the RfA process
• Proposal 25 (implemented): Require nominees to be extended confirmed

You can read the detail of the changes on Diff. It is possible to opt-out these changes in user preferences ("Show discussion activity"). • Interface admins now have greater control over the styling of article components on mobile with the introduction of the SiteAdminHelper. More information on how styles can be disabled can be found at the extension's page. [49]
• Wikimedia Enterprise has added article body sections in JSON format and a curated short description field to the existing parsed Infobox. This expansion to the API is also available via Wikimedia Cloud Services. [50]

• When you look at the Special:Log page, the first view is labelled "All public logs", but it only shows some logs. This label will now say "Main public logs". [53]

• A new service will be built to replace Extension:Graph. Details can be found in the latest update regarding this extension.
• Starting May 21, English Wikipedia and German Wikipedia will get the possibility to activate "Add a link". This is part of the progressive deployment of this tool to all Wikipedias. These communities can activate and configure the feature locally. [54]

I just noticed that Wikipedia:Database reports/Empty categories hasn't been generated by HaleBot since May 15th. Looking at the bot's contributions, it looks like things have become irregular in general. Luckily, I have that work-around solution that you and Legoktm provided but it seems like there are problems going on with the bot beyond my Empty Categories page. Liz ^{Read! Sir, I have serious complain regarding continuous vandalism on several film article by an editor using multiple accounts. Kindly check here by the user Joressa, here by one Paul is describing and here by one Master of all cinemalovers. Since you're listed as one of the maintainers of HaleBot, I wanted to ask if it would be possible to implement a minor update. As it stands, Wikipedia:Database reports/Polluted categories is supposed to catch pages which have a mixture of userspace and mainspace content in them, so that they can be cleaned up to remove userpages on WP:USERNOCAT grounds — however, the report always also catches a significant number of hidden internal maintenance categories where it really isn't a problem at all if there are userpages in them, which just linger around from update to update as speedbumps that have to be worked around because there's nothing to actually clean up.

There's a template, ((Polluted category)), already on many of those categories, which used to (and was intended to) have the effect of causing the polluted category reports to bypass categories that were so tagged and not list them for cleanup that they don't need, but at some point the reports seem to have stopped skipping those. So would it be possible to update HaleBot to start recognizing that template, and skipping the categories that are tagged with it when it updates the polluted categories report, again? Thanks. I'm trying to add multiple estimates on Japans body count during and before world war 2. It seems that there's only one estimate available in the description section and i've tried adding a citation, but the guy who added the 30 million estimate removed my edit. I tried talking to him and adding to the discussion page, but he and the discussion page of been silent.
