I have a special interest in developing the Joint Staff and Combatant Command Records Management Program (RMP) in a collaborative environment because I am responsible for oversight of this worldwide, multiple time zone group. I'm focusing my efforts primarily in the unclassified intellipedia space where I'm also hosting an information management blog in addition to wiki-type pages. Because this limits international or non-governmental participation in the wider records management community of interest, I am establishing a presence in Wikipedia as well because I believe records managers worldwide are facing similar challenges as we attempt to manage copious amounts of electronic information/data which has been created (but not well managed) over the past couple of decades or so. If you would like to join this community of interest, please feel welcome. As more and more businesses and governments begin to deploy electronic records management applications (RMAs) and enterprise content management (ECM) systems, there will certainly be universal lessons learned from which we can all profit if we share them with one another.

I am also happy to share information on Freedom of Information Act and Automatic Declassification issues and expect I may move into the collaborative environments for these areas with time as well. Both of these fields are enabled by records management and are part of the information management field within which I work.

I am interested in exploring the seam between the IT and RM disciplines as I believe there are "quick wins" possible if these two communities begin to communicate better--and more often. Briefly, I am interested in the following program areas:

• Joint Staff Action Officer Research Assistance - As Joint Staff Action Officers support the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who is the President's primary military advisor, insuring that they have complete information with historical context so that they can apply rigorous academic analysis is a high priority. Time spent searching (or formatting information for presentation) is time unavailable for analysis.

• Served as Flag Aide to Commander, Cruiser Destroyer Group TWELVE (CCDG-12) in Mayport, Florida and aboard USS WASP, USS ENTERPRISE, and USS CARON (1994-1996). During this period participated in the 1994 US actions in Haiti, as well as a diplomatic visit to Severomorsk, Russia and the headquarters of the Russian Northern Fleet.

• Joint Staff Officer (JSO)^[2] qualified. Served as the Deputy Chief of Information Management Division on the Joint Staff from 2000 to 2002 where I first became interested in this field. Through my interactions with US governmental interagency colleagues in an academic environment, and at a US embassy (Sofia, Bulgaria), I expanded my information management experience and became more aware of international challenges. Following retirement, I have chosen to continue to pursue these professional interests with hopes of positively impacting the formation of US military policy--and perhaps US government policy--over time.
