I refer to numerous media reports and academic papers to write new articles. In addition, in the military field of Korea, which I often deal with on Wikipedia, I try to exclude sources from Western media such as the United States and Europe as much as possible, and the reasons are as follows.

First, Western media often provide groundless inaccurate information without minimal investigation. (This is one of the most important reasons why I work on English Wikipedia, not Korean Wikipedia.)

Secondly, there are often articles on topics dealing with Asia and Korea from a biased perspective in the Western world. This trend became more pronounced after the COVID-19 pandemic, and you can find the reason in the social science thesis materials below.
social science papers: Anti-Asian Hate Crime During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Exploring Racism on Political Discourse and Racialized Social Control in the United States
social science papers: Anti-Asian Hate in the Wake of COVID-19: Discrimination against Asian Population and Social Movement in Germany)

Third, the U.S. and European media are still ignorant of South Korea, including North Korea. (If you're a journalist, you can get enough information if you sit at your desk and browse Wikipedia for a few minutes.)

However, this should not be taken to mean that I absolutely dislike the sources of Western media. I still focus on making reliable articles by cross-verifying various sources of Korean and Western media.

[edit]

Recently, English-speaking wikipedia editors of various nationalities who write articles related to South Korea often write or edit articles by mixing American and British English spelling, which causes a lot of inconvenience for Korean editors like me to work on articles. I also sometimes use a mixture of American and British English spelling without distinction

Unlike North Korea, which learns British English because of Anti-Americanism, South Korea is learning American English in all government schools due to decades of interaction with the United States, and most military tactics and military terms have been written or used based on American English.

Sadly, not a few editors who are unaware of this often edit Korean-related articles written in American English spelling into British English spelling. For this reason, I have recently been adding the Use American English template in an article to reduce confusion.
