The Type 60 107 mm self-propelled mortar (60式自走107mm迫撃砲, roku-maru-shiki-jisou-107mm-hakugeki-hou) was an armored mortar carrier used by the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF), developed in 1960.[1] It is based on JGSDF Type 60 armoured personnel carrier SU-II.[2] The official abbreviation for the vehicle is 107MSP and also known as SX in the JGSDF. Only a small number were built due to the high cost per unit of 220 million yen.[3] The Type 60 has been replaced by the newer Type 96 since mid-to-late 1990s due to its obsolescence and was fully phased out in 2002. The vehicle was used by the 7th division and the 11th infantry regiment.[4]
