Thio (French pronunciation: [tjo]) is a commune in the South Province of New Caledonia, an overseas territory of France in the Pacific Ocean.
A novel Aerial tramway built by Adolf Bleichert & Co. company in 1906 existed here at the start of the 20th century to facilitate loading ore ships offshore.
2024 New Caledonia unrest
[edit]During the 2024 New Caledonia unrest, an alleged gunman was shot dead by French police in the village.[3]
