Seriously

[edit]

This template may not be used facetiously? This user may be alive or dead? How else are you meant to read it? 92.20.178.220 (talk) 15:16, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am currently alive!  Buaidh  15:47, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Who updates it?

[edit]

Short of meticulously planning one's suicide and pre-loading the template with one's date of death, who would update the template in case the user dies of accidental or natural causes? Perhaps the template could be enhanced so that it reads a page on Wikipedia to see if one has logged in, and every time it detects that the user has logged in, changes the template automatically to indicate the user isn't dead yet. Maybe it could also include some smarts to the effect of computing the elapsed time since the last login and delaying the "user is dead" until, say, a year or two have elapsed since the last login. — QuicksilverT @ 19:45, 18 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

that would be a cool feature, how do we get the last edit or last login date? Frietjes (talk) 23:01, 18 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The still living user can update it and so can time:
  • While the user is still alive, the user can update it again and again to a future date, based on current life expectancy. E.g. 2 years from now, next month, next week, tomorrow.
  • After the user passed away, time will update the userbox when the date expires.
