Custom change

[edit]

Hi Astrofreak92! Regarding this revert,[1] I wonder if the custom still makes sense. When that habit was established, we did not list future spaceflights more than a few months in advance, so for example we would just today start listing a few flights for 2018. The current practice of tracking future spaceflights has expanded so much that we have a full launch manifest of 102 missions for 2018 already, and 15+ for 2019, which prompted me to fork the page 2019 in spaceflight today. In that context, I think the hidden directive in this template does no longer make much sense, and I would recommend suppressing it. The template would link only to existing articles, the last of which is now 2019. What do you think? — JFG talk 14:56, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The last year in the list traditionally linked to "Deep Space Rendezvous" of the "Timeline of Spaceflight" page as a way of giving a timeline of far future events rather than linking to a section on the last existing year's page. I think that system bookended the list nicely, and I would support changing the redirect for 2020 in Spaceflight back there. If it's going to stay pointing at 2019 in spaceflight, then I suppose having the year visible is pointless. Astrofreak92 (talk) 15:03, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Good point. Then I would suggest adding an explicit link called "Future deep space rendezvous" to the bottom of this template, and keep the calendar limit at the last existing spaceflight page, currently 2019. — JFG talk 15:14, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Why convert to use navbox?

[edit]

@Zackmann08: You just tagged this template to suggest using ((navbox)) as a base. Could you explain what would be the benefits and drawbacks of such a change? — JFG talk 17:25, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@JFG: I think the main thing is just uniformity. Slowly but surely all Navboxes, Sidebars and Infoboxes are being converted to using the respective templates. --Zackmann08 (Talk to me/What I been doing) 19:38, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Zackmann08: Thanks for the conversion. I tweaked a couple things, looks pretty good. — JFG talk 10:10, 28 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@JFG: looks good! Thanks for the help. :-) --Zackmann08 (Talk to me/What I been doing) 17:42, 28 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
