Other possible battles between Clan Munro and Clan Mackenzie - sources

[edit]

I am looking for verifiable sources on any of the following two battles that allegedly were between the clans Munro and Mackenzie:

  1. Prior to Kenneth Mackenzie being executed by the Earl of Ross in 1346, the earl sent a force to raid the Mackenzies and steal cattle. The Mackenzies gave chase, a skirmish took place and the raiders were slaughtered. Alan Macknezie's 2006 history of the Mackenzie's says that the force the earl had sent consisted of the Clan Munro and Dingwalls [1]. However, none of the historical sources which cover this topic mention that it was specifically the Munros and Dingwalls, not even the 19th century publications that I have seen.
  2. Battle of Stirling (1648) - Many years ago I came across a website which was quoting a historical account that the Marquess of Argyll's commander at this battle was a Mackenzie who was killed and that George Munro of Newmore who commanded the victorious side proclaimed that he had taken revenge for his ancestor George Munro, 10th Baron of Foulis who had been killed by the Mackenzies at the Battle of Bealach nam Broig in 1452. The website has long since disappeared and the Mackenzie accounts state that despite the Mackenzies and Argyll being on good terms at this point not a single Mackenzie joined Argyll.

Any sources that can be found to support the above would be useful.QuintusPetillius (talk) 19:08, 6 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
