Ayers Rock (band)

[edit]

Improved to Good Article status by Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) and CaesarsPalaceDude (talk). Nominated by CaesarsPalaceDude (talk) at 03:13, 31 January 2016 (UTC).

  • ALT0 is not an interesting fact - that's Captain Obvious to the rescue. With regards to ALT1: an artist signing with a record company is not really a remarkable event either. That's what they tend to do if they're given half a chance. I have also removed the image from this nomination, as that photograph pictured the actual Ayers Rock rather than the band - it would only confuse people. With regards to the article: most things check out. Sources are good, Good Article promotion was timely, QPQ is not necessary here (first submission, as far as I can tell), and the chosen hook is not too long. There are some problems though. ALT2 is an interesting hook, but I can't find explicitly stated anywhere in the article that Ayers Rock were the first artists to mix these styles. That needs to happen if ALT2 is going to be the hook. Furthermore, the seventh paragraph of the Genres section is entirely uncited.—♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 13:35, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
  • ALT2: I believe we will be unsuccessful with this one. As you correctly point out, the key paragraph is uncited. If suitable references existed, we would have already included them.
  • ALT1: This one is a lot more interesting than you have assumed. It needs more information to properly convey the significance. The point is that Ayers Rock were the first international signing for Mushroom, which was a small company at the time. There were many more later on including Skyhooks, Kylie Minogue, and Yothu Yindi, leading to Mushroom becoming Australia's largest independent record company. A new version might look like: ... that Ayers Rock became the first Mushroom Records artist to sign with an international label; later Mushroom grew into Australia's largest independent record company? The extra information could be added to the article, thereby improving it. CaesarsPalaceDude (talk) 05:57, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
  • If you could somehow get that into the article and formulate that suggestion into a viable ALT3 (as well as addressing my other concern regarding concerning the uncited paragraph), then I could probably sign off on this nomination.—♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 11:39, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
  • I've reworded part of the article about Mushroom Records and supplied another McFarlane ref which supports its importance as an independent label. As for the uncited paragraph I've added some ref tabs from existing refs which cover some of that material. I've also added more to Gudinski's description of the impact of the group's signing to A&M. I now provide another alt3:

ALT3 ... that Ayers Rock were the first Mushroom Records artist to sign with an international label; enabling their tour of US stadiums and recording an album in Los Angeles?shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 06:13, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

  • I feel I can support ALT3. Other aspects of the article have already been reviewed and approved. The sourcing of the aforementioned paragraph has also happened correctly. So, time to cook!—♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 17:47, 5 March 2016 (UTC)
