"Barthold" with th in European languages
[edit]He used "Barthold" when he published in European languages. English Wiki is in a European language (don't mind Brexit). There is no reason then to transliterate from Russian Cyrillic to English, he made the choice already. Yuri Bregel, who republished his work, uses Barthold in English, including on Encyclopaedia Iranica (here). See JSTOR, ResearchGate, etc. The transliterated version gets the first position in the lead, that's more than enough. Every man gets to chose how his name has to be written, and he did.
