"Ottoman descended minority"

[edit]

The 2001 census table cited as a reference to support the idea of an Ottoman descended minority in Hungary is a pure misinterpretation of the purpose of that table, which lists the identification or "affiliation with cultural values". This does not imply direct descent from Ottoman populations, especially that the Ottoman Empire left Hungary more then 300 years ago. Please don't misinterpret census data to give rise to fantasy content. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.2.211.247 (talk) 04:15, 5 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

"Ottoman rule influence on Hungarian language"

[edit]

In the article, there is the following phrase: "Most Hungarian Turks are bilingual and can speak both Turkish and Hungarian. Moreover, due to the Ottoman rule during the 16th-17th centuries, the Turkish language has also influenced greater Hungarian society; today, there are still numerous Turkish loanwords in the Hungarian language." Followed by a table which shows similarities in Hungarian in Turkish language.

This is plainly speaking wrong in one aspect: The Ottoman rule had a minor effect on the Hungarian language, yes, however the numerous Turkish loanwords in the Hungarian language as well as the similarities in Hungarian and Turkish language have a different reason and nothing to do with the Ottoman rule, like this paragraph and the table underneath it suggest. The true reason for the similarities and loanwords is the fact that the ancient Hungarians (Magyars) lived together with Turkic peoples some period before the Conquest of the Carpathian basin. This is the reason and the origin. So the phrase I cited in bold is wrong information. Please someone edit this and find an appropriate source. Alec Corvin (talk) 16:31, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
