I am a computer lab teacher

[edit]

I am a computer lab teacher for a small private K-8 school and in the past we have used Microsoft Photo Editor software as an introduction to digital editing. We recently purchased Office 2004 and realized that Microsoft Picture Manager has replaced Micorosoft Photo Editor. The "old" digital editing tools are now gone and I miss the application in our lab. I would like to know if anyone can tell me if it is possible to install the old Photo Editor along with the new Microsoft Office 2004. I think this would be helpful to many teachers in my position (where funds and resources are limited and new software does not meet the same needs).

You are not alone, many have missed the ability to perform simple edits (crop, resize, transparency) using the almost too-easy MS Photo Editor.

MS does support the installation of Photo Editor by itself (sort of) alongside newer versions of MS Office.

For a free alternative based on the .NET framework that does everything that Photo Editor used to do (and more) I recommend Paint.NET. Again, it's free. Once Office 2003 was installed on our machines we lost the ability to do simple photo edits, and this is what I'm using as an alternative. It is constantly updated and will check for updates periodically. It was created by Washington State University students and now maintained by some of the alumni.

Advertising

[edit]

Regarding the above comments: Please do not advertise, if you have any enquires contact your dealer/salesperson.... See any proper adverts on Wiki? I don't. Thanks

I don't think that that was advertising, since the subject matter is about a discontinued product. I'd say your suggestion very much appears to be indirect advertising of proprietary software resellers, while there is loads of free software available. -Mardus 22:49, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That Easy?

[edit]

So If I really love the program I can just insert the CD and not install the office components but just install Photo Editor? There should still be an updated version that opens bigger files, like files that are 30 MB make it say "Image is too large (Too many bytes)" THis program is good it works on Slow computers beter than the viewer that comes with XP... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.153.204.116 (talk) 20:46, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A step backwards

[edit]

"It has been replaced by Microsoft Office Picture Manager, although some Photo Editor features are not available in Picture Manager"

So why did they do it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.237.211.236 (talk) 18:36, 20 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
