Talk:Canadian Pacific Air Lines

Notes

[edit]

A 1947 photo clearly show a plane with the lettering "Canadian Pacific Airlines" [1]. Accordingly, I have renamed from "Canadian Pacific Air Lines". -- Curps 01:16, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that the company originally wrote its title as "Canadian Pacific Airlines" and later as "Canadian Pacific Air Lines" -- this deserves mention as well as citing articles. For instance, the first image on the article chooses the latter spelling and yet the title immediately above it uses the former. Finally, the name "CP Air" was adopted in 1968 [2], which I am adding to the introduction. -- dhall27 18:28, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The airline was founded in March 1942 as "Canadian Pacific Air Lines" (first timetable here [3]). The name was changed to "Canadian Pacific Airlines" in 1947. In 1968 the name "CP Air" was adopted. On 17th Dezember 1985 the airline adopted its original - not its second - name again and operated as "Canadian Pacific Air Lines" from 1986 onwards untill it was merged with PWA in 1987 (April 1986 timetable [4]) . --Jewido (talk) 12:04, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

miscategorization

[edit]

Why is the fatal '53 Catalina crash under "other incidents"?--((User:Coryma)) 09:46, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hubs?

[edit]

Canadian Pacific disappeared in 1987 and there was no concept known as hubs back then - not in Canada at least. Should the wording be changed to "home base" instead? --JNZ 02:46, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment

[edit]

I rated today's version of the article as "C" class. While it is of reasonable length, it is short of references - once that improves it might qualify for a "B" rating. PKT(alk) 21:26, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Adding Survivors category

[edit]

68.147.238.171 (talk) 16:10, 1 January 2018 (UTC)Hi - Thank you for the welcome. I added the Surviving Aircraft section because I believe it to significant and because Wikipedia have permitted a "Suvivors" section in the Trans Canada Airlines article. I am a retired Canadian Pacific Air Lines / CP Air employee and confirm that the information is factual.[reply]

A good thing you enter discussion, though the thought is late in coming to you ... The Trans Canada Air Lines (sic!) article does indeed mention two surviving aircraft. The one entry is properly referenced, the other isn't and is also poorly written; you may well have triggered its removal, I think it has been hitherto overlooked. Referencing is crucial on Wikipedia: you confirm the info as being an ex-employee of CP Air and I do not think anybody doubts you or your facts; but that is not sufficient, reliable references are required. Thanks for going along! Jan olieslagers (talk) 16:15, 1 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I will add references. Thanks.

Surviving aircraft are not really noteworthy to include in these articles so I contest the addition here. I have raised it at project level at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject Airlines#Surviving_Aircraft, thanks. MilborneOne (talk) 18:33, 1 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I added the Surviving Aircraft list to the article. I added it because a list of surviving aircraft is an item of interest to airline employees and to airplane enthusiasts. In addition, Wikipedia allowed a list of Surviving aircraft to the article about Trans Canada Air Lines so there was a precedent. Thank you.

January 2, 2018 - Although it is your prerogative, I am very disappointed in your editorial decision to delete the "Surviving Aircraft" section as it would be of interest to many persons and would expand the scope of airline articles on Wikipedia.

February 4, 2018 - Hi. I have added an "Aircraft on Display" section similar to the "Aircraft on Display" section allowed in the Trans Canada Air Lines article. Would you like me to add book or internet references?

It still not something that we do on airline articles and none of the aircraft are on display by the airline, perhaps take to the airline project and make a suggestion to gain a consensus. MilborneOne (talk) 16:53, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

February 6, 2018 - Hi MilborneOne. I have added my comments to the airline project and look forward to a resolution. Thank you.
