Scientific racism category
[edit]This is a clear WP:BLP violation as it constitutes an unfounded personal attack. Reverted immediately. --Jatkins (talk - contribs) 16:28, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
- Indeed. Without anything in article mentioning anything about scientific racism at all, the category is nothing but an attack. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 17:15, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
- The article has discussed Sullivan's advocacy of scientific racism for almost a year. [1] 174.212.102.117 (talk) 03:01, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
- I don't see a single mention of "scientific racism", or "racism", or "scientific" in the article. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 04:37, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
- In the sentence "The importance of Sullivan to the popularization of The Bell Curve and race science was noted by Matthew Yglesias", the words "race science" were turned into a link to scientific racism in the diff I posted. Also, the text added in that diff clearly describes him as an advocate of scientific racism even if the article weren't using that exact term. 174.212.102.117 (talk) 05:14, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
- There is no evidence that Sullivan is a proponent of scientific racism. "Race science" is not a real subject. This is pure character assassination. Stop vandalizing this article. --Jatkins (talk - contribs) 08:35, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
- I would also add that the entire "Race" section should be removed. The links are to far-left sources (notably, The Guardian) which demonstrate clear POV in violation of Wikipedia policies. This is an obvious attempt to depict Sullivan as racist from a far-left perspective. I have also removed the tendentious Current Affairs quote, and would add that Current Affairs quotes (in particular, those of the founder Nathan J. Robinson) are scattered across articles pertaining to controversial subjects despite the magazine's status as fringe and rarely quoted in reliable mainstream articles. --Jatkins (talk - contribs) 08:40, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
- Well, The Guardian is certainly left-leaning , but it is a newspaper of record. I wouldn't call Sullivan a "racist", but he legitimizes pseudoscientific claims about the relationship between intelligence and "race" (e.g., Smith, 2020). He essentially denies, or at least ignores, the scientific consensus on that issue (cf. Jackson & Winston, 2021). And given that he is a public figure, I would argue that this section is indeed relevant. However, it may be reasonable to remove the blog reference (footnote 83).
