Rasata Rafaravavitafika (born 1987) is a Malagasy politician who has been the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Madagascar since January 2024.

Education

Rafaravavitafika graduated from the National School of Administration of Madagascar (ENAM) and has a PhD in International Relations and Diplomacy from the Center for Diplomatic and Strategic Studies in Paris.[1]

Career

Rafaravavitafika worked within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for a number of years, as Chief of Staff, Spokesperson, and Director of Economic Expansion.[1]

Rafaravavitafika was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs by President Andry Rajoelina on 15 January 2024.[2] At her swearing-in, she said that her priorities would be the promotion of economic diplomacy, the participation of the Malagasy diaspora in the country's development, and promoting the country's image overseas.[3] She met with US Ambassador Claire Pierangelo on 5 February,[4] before attending the 7th Indian Ocean Conference in Perth.[5]

In April 2024, Rafaravavitafika sent a letter to the European Union's High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell requesting the EU replace the head of its delegation in Madagascar after ambassador Isabelle Delattre Burger publicly denounced a new law allowing for the castration of people convicting of sexually assaulting minors.[6][7]

In June 2024, she celebrated the opening of Madagascar's embassy in Morocco with her counterpart Nasser Bourita,[8] signing a joint communique on intra-African development.[9]
