The Black Eye Galaxy is a spiral galaxy with a very prominent band of dust covering much of the near side. Very unusual internal motions of the gas within the galaxy give strong evidence that another galaxy collided with and was absorbed by the Black Eye galaxy about 1 billion years ago.
