Flexera is an American computer software company based in Itasca, Illinois. It is a business-focused organization which works in software asset management and cloud management.

History

On 1 April 2008, Macrovision sold its software division to the Thoma Bravo investment fund,[1] which became Acresso Software. Macrovision subsequently changed its name to Rovi Corporation.

In October 2009, Acresso Software, Inc. became Flexera Software after a legal threat from Agresso Software.[2]

On July 19, 2011, Thoma Bravo sold a majority stake in Flexera Software LLC to Teachers' Private Capital, the private investment department of the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan. The transaction was finalized on October 3, 2011.[3]

In 2020, Flexera released their SaaS platform Flexera One.

On May 28, 2020, Flexera launched a new division called Revenera.[4] Revenera is a business-focused organization which works in monetization, software composition analysis, and installation (computer programs) software.

In February 2020, Flexera was ranked in the Gartner Magic Quadrant as a leader in Cloud Management Platforms. In July, Flexera was ranked also ranked a leader for Software Asset Management Tools for the third consecutive year.[5]

Acquisitions

Flexera acquired Australian based ManageSoft in 2010.[6] Managesoft was OSA (Open Software Associates), which itself came out of HP's Australian Software Organisation.

On September 15, 2015, Flexera acquired Denmark based Secunia for an undisclosed amount.[7]

On September 17, 2017, Flexera announced the completion of the acquisition of BDNA. [8]

On September 26, 2018, Flexera acquired RightScale for an undisclosed amount.[9]

On June 5, 2019, Flexera acquired Asheville, North Carolina–based RISC Networks for an undisclosed amount.[10]

On November 28, 2023, Flexera entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Snow Software, a software asset management company based in Sweden for an undisclosed sum.[11] The acquisition was completed February 15, 2024.[12]

The Flexera Software division (now Revenera) has made several acquitions. On February 26, 2016, Flexera Software acquired software composition analysis company Palamida.[13]

On February 5, 2020, Flexera Software acquired software usage analytics company Revulytics.[14][15][16]

In July 2021, Revenera announced Software Container Delivery for entitlement-driven delivery of software container images.[21]

In September 2021, Revenera announced that all software monetization, software composition analysis, and installation (computer programs) software will be sold via a subscription model.[22]

In September 2022, Revenera launched enhanced Software Bill of Materials support.[23]

Monetization Monitor

Revenera publishes a series of reports each year named Monetization Monitors. These reports highlight software monetization, piracy, and usage analytics trends.[24][25][26]
