Object history
English: Coat of arms of the Danish town Varde. The leopard is first mentioned as a symbol of the town in 1219 making it the oldest example of Danish civic heraldry. The leopard is taken from the arms of the dukes of Lüneburg as the town was part of the dowry of Helena, sister of Danish king Valdemar I for her marriage with Wilhelm of Lüneburg.
