Symbolism:
Blue and white are the colors traditionally associated with the Infantry and gold is emblematic of honor and high achievement; black is expressive of stability.
The pheon symbolizes combat readiness and ready response; it is divided in two, commemorating the brigade's battle heritage and campaign credits in both World War I and World War II.
The three fleurs-de-lis honor the unit's three Croix de Guerres.
Background:
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 158th Infantry Brigade on 11 Mar 1998.
It was redesignated on 28 Sep 1999 for the 2d Brigade, 87th Division.
