Ali ibn Abi Talib (Arabic: علي بن أبي طالب, strict transliteration: ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib) (c. March 17, 599 – c. January 22, 661) was one of the companions and was the cousin and son-in-law of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. He succeeded Caliph Uthman as the forth Caliph of Rashidun Caliphate.
