Abdul Samad Dawood, (Urdu: عبدالصمد داؤد; born 1983) is a Pakistani businessperson and investor. He is the vice-chair of the board of Dawood Hercules Corporation, which is the majority shareholder of Engro Corporation.[3]
Career
[edit]Dawood has been managing and overseeing Dawood family-owned business enterprises since 2002, with a focus on mergers and acquisitions (M&A).[4] He has spearheaded multi-billion-dollar M&A deals for the Group.[5]
Dawood was the CEO of the public equity firm, Cyan from 2010 to 2014 and has been Chair of the board of Cyan since 2022.[6][7] Dawood was also the CEO of Dawood Hercules Corporation from 2014 to 2016.[8][9] He delivered Pakistan's first sustainable real estate project in Sheikhupura, Punjab.[10]
Since 2015, he has also been the chair of the board of FrieslandCampina Engro Pakistan (formerly Engro Foods). He continued as chair after Engro Corporation sold the majority of its ownership stake in Engro Foods to FrieslandCampina.[11]
He joined the board of directors of Engro Corporation in 2009[2] and is supporting the company's efforts to expand operations internationally.[12] He has also led the corporate restructuring of Engro Corporation and Dawood Hercules Corporation to synergise their investment strategies.[5][13][14]
Dawood additionally serves as a director on the boards of various organisations, including Khaadi Corporation,[15] Pakistan Business Council,[16] Endeavour Pakistan, and Dawood Lawrencepur. In the past, he has been a director of Hub Power Company,[17] and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited.[18]
Dawood has also represented the Pakistani private sector in the United States to increase bilateral trading and investment opportunities,[19] as well as domestically as a member of the Industry Advisory Council of the Government of Pakistan.[20][21]
Social Causes
[edit]Dawood is a trustee of The Dawood Foundation and a member of the board of governors of the Karachi School of Business & Leadership.[1] He has been on the Board of WWF–Pakistan[22] and a donor to the organisation,[23] facilitating cleanliness and awareness initiatives at Sandspit Turtle Beach for the conservation of Sea turtles.[24]
Personal life
[edit]Dawood's brother Shahzada and his nephew, Suleman, died in June 2023 alongside three others inside the submersible Titan when it imploded on a tourist expedition to view the wreck of the Titanic.[25]
