Ο Ναγκαρτζούνα (नागार्जुन (प्राचीन दार्शनिक, 150 - 250) θεωρείται ευρέως ένας από τους σημαντικότερους φιλοσόφους βουδιστές μετά τον Σιντάρτα Γκαουτάμα^[1]. Μαζί με τον μαθητή του Āryadeva, θεωρείται ο ιδρυτής της σχολής Madhyamaka του Βουδισμού Μαχαγιάνα. Στο Ναγκαρτζούνα επίσης πιστώνεται η ανάπτυξη της φιλοσοφίας των Prajñāpāramitā και με βάση ορισμένες πηγές, το ότι αποκάλυψε γραφές στον κόσμο, που είχε ανακτήσει από τους Nagas (άνθρωποι-φίδια). Επιπλέον, υποτίθεται ότι έχει γράψει αρκετές πραγματείες περί rasayana καθώς και ότι ήταν επικεφαλής του Nālandā.^[2]
