Dorsiventral

Der Fachausdruck dorsiventral, substantiviert Dorsiventralität, (lateinisch dorsum ‚Rücken‘ und venter ‚Bauch‘) beschreibt in der Biologie die Art der Symmetrie von Lebewesen oder Teilen davon. Diese sind dann dorsiventral, wenn sie eine einzige Symmetrieebene besitzen, die sie in zwei spiegelbildliche Hälften teilt (Bilateralität), während die Ober- und Unterseite (bzw. Rücken und Bauch) unterschiedlich gebaut sind.[1]

Von Dorsiventralität spricht man hauptsächlich bei Tieren. In der Botanik dagegen ist bei Blüten der ansonsten gleichbedeutende Begriff zygomorph und bei Blättern bifazial gebräuchlicher.
