Katepsin L2, poznat i kao katepsin V je genetički kodiran sa lokusa gena CTSL2. Ovaj protein i gen koji ga kontrolira su specifičnoat čovjeka.[5]

Protein koji je kodiran ovim genom je član proteinske porodice peptidaza, porodica C1. To je lizosomna cistein proteinaza koja može imati važnu ulogu u fiziologiji rožnjaće.

Ovaj gen se ispoljava kod bolesnika sa karcinomima debelo crijevo i dojke, crijeva, mliječnih žlijezda ili peritumorskih tkiva. To sugerira moguću ulogu ovog gena tumorskim procesima.[6][7] [8][9]

Klinički značaj

Katepsin L2 može imati određenu ulogu u patogenezi keratokonusa.[10]
