Bavarska (njemački: Freistaat Bayernⓘ) jeste njemačka savezna država (njem. Bundesland). Glavni grad ove pokrajine je Minhen, koji je treći grad po veličini u Njemačkoj. Po površini Bavarska je najveća savezna država Njemačke i poslije Sjeverne Rajne-Vestfalije najnaseljenija. Bavarska se tradicionalno dijeli u tri dijela: Švabsku (njem. Schwaben), Frankoniju (njem. Franken) i Staru Bavarsku (Altbayern). Historija Bavarske proteže se od njenih najranijih naselja i osniva se kao vojvodstvo u 6. vijeku, a preko Svetog Rimskog Carstva postaje nezavisno kraljevstvo i jedna od država Savezne Republike Njemačke. Vojvodstvo Bavarske datira iz 555. godine n.e. U 15. vijeku, vojvoda Bavarske postao je izborni knez Svetog Rimskog Carstva. Kraljevina Bavarska postojala je od 1806. do 1918. godine, kada je Bavarska postala republika. Godine 1946., slobodna država Bavarska je ponovo organizovana na demokratskim osnovama nakon Drugog svjetskog rata. Bavarska ima svoju prepoznatljivu kulturu, koja objedinjuje: jezik, kuhinju, arhitekturu, festivale kao što su Oktoberfest i elemente alpske simbolike.
