১৯৬০-এর দশকের প্রতিসংস্কৃতি একটি বিরোধী-প্রতিষ্ঠিত সাংস্কৃতিক ঘটনা যা যুক্তরাজ্যতে এবং মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে প্রথম বিকাশ করেছিল এবং মধ্য-১৯৬০ দশক থেকে মধ্য-১৯৭০ দশকের মধ্যে পশ্চিমা বিশ্বে ছড়িয়ে পরে। লন্ডন, নিউইয়র্ক সিটি এবং সান ফ্রান্সিসকো এই প্রতিসংস্কৃতির কেন্দ্রবিন্দু ছিল। নাগরিক অধিকার আন্দোলন ক্রমবর্ধমান হওয়ায় সামগ্রিক আন্দোলনটি গতি অর্জন করে এবং পরবর্তীতে ভিয়েতনামে মার্কিন সরকারের ব্যাপক সামরিক হস্তক্ষেপের বিস্তারের সাথে বিপ্লবী হয়ে ওঠে।[৩][৪][৫]

Culture is the "social heritage" of society. It includes the complex set of learned and shared beliefs, customs, skills, habits, traditions, and knowledge common to the members of society. Within a culture, there may be subcultures made up of specific groups that are somewhat separate from the rest of society because of distinct traits, beliefs, or interests.
