জন ক্রমওয়েল ম্যাথার বর্তমান কালের স্বনামধন্য মার্কিন জ্যোতিঃপদার্থবিজ্ঞানী এবং বিশ্বতত্ত্ববিদ। তিনি মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের ভার্জিনিয়া অঙ্গরাজ্যের রোয়ানোকে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। মূলত মহাজাগতিক ক্ষুদ্রতরঙ্গ পটভূমি বিকিরণ নিয়ে বিস্তর গবেষণার জন্য বিখ্যাত। এ বিষয়ে গবেষণার জন্যই ২০০৬ সালে জর্জ এফ. স্মুটের সাথে যৌথভাবে পদার্থবিজ্ঞানে নোবেল পুরস্কার লাভ করেন। তিনি বর্তমানে মেরিল্যান্ডে অবস্থিত নাসার গডার্ড স্পেস ফ্লাইট সেন্টারে কর্মরত আছেন। নোবেল পুরস্কার প্রাপ্তির মূল কারণ ছিল: "মহাজাগতিক ক্ষুদ্রতরঙ্গ পটভূমি বিকিরণের এনিসোট্রপির মধ্যে কৃষ্ণ বস্তু বিকিরণ আবিষ্কার"।[১]
