Мінас Тырыт часьцяком згадваецца як «Белы горад» і горад каралёў. Рахірым гэтае месца завуць Мундбург. У кульмінацыі кніжкі «Ўладар Пярсьцёнкаў» горад трапляе пад вельмі вялікі напад хаўрусных войскаў Мордару, вядомы як бітва на Пеленарскіх палёх.
