والتي كانت تسمى بين 1948 و1972 باسم سيلان، واسمها الرسمي جمهورية سريلانكا الديمقراطية الاشتراكية (بالسنهالية:ශ්රී ලංකාව، بالتاملية: இலங்கை)، هي دولة جزرية تقع في شمال المحيط الهندي جنوب شبه القارة الهندية، في جنوب آسيا. لسريلانكا حدود بحرية، شمالاً، مع الهند، التي تبعد عنها حوالي 31 كيلومترا (19،3 ميل)، ومع جزر المالديف، في جنوبها الشرقي. نظام الدولة جمهوري رئاسي وممركز، وعاصمتها هي سري جاياواردنابورا كوتي التي تقع في الضاحية الشرقية لمدينة كولومبو. تشتهر الجزيرة بإنتاج وتصدير الشاي والبن والمطاط وجوز الهند، وتعرف سريلانكا انتقالا تدريجيا إلى الاقتصاد الصناعي الحديث، ويتمتع سكانها بأعلى دخل للفرد في جنوب آسيا.
