أبو جعفر عبد الله المنصور (712-775)، واسمه الكامل عبد الله بن محمد بن علي بن عبد الله بن العباس بن عبد المطلب بن هاشم، ثاني خلفاء بني العباس وأقواهم. وهو أسن من أخيه السفاح بست سنين ولكن أخاه الإمام إبراهيم بن محمد بن علي حينما قبض عليه جنود مروان بن محمد سلم الإمامة لابي العباس دون المنصور. واشتهر المنصور بتشييد مدينة بغداد التي تحولت لعاصمة الدولة العباسية. وتولى الخلافة بعد وفاة أخيه السفاح من عام 754م حتى وفاته في عام 775م.136إلى 158ه. كان الهم الأكبر للمنصور أثناء حكمه هو تقوية حكم أسرة بني العباس والتخلص من أي خطر يهدد سيطرتهم حتى لو كان حليفا سابقا مثل أبو مسلم الخراساني الذي قاد الثورة العباسية ضد الأمويين في خراسان.
